Business Areas
The Finance team extends into just about every area of the Barclays Group. You'll find our people in a diverse range of business areas, including:
Group Centre Finance
This team handles all financial reporting at the Centre and is key in helping cement the bank's entire Finance community.
You'll get involved in putting together external and internal financial reporting, including interim and annual reports. Dealing with everyone from investor relations and the Financial Services Authority through to Barclays Treasury and a range of other stakeholders, you'll quickly gain first-class technical knowledge.
Barclaycard
Barclaycard, based in Northampton, introduced the UK's first credit card in 1966 and hasn't looked back since. Now Barclaycard is much more than just a supplier of personal credit cards, providing a broad range of financial products to our customers.
It's made up of six Strategic Business Units (SBUs): Barclaycard International, Barclaycard US, Barclaycard Business and Partnerships, UK Cards, UK Loans and Central Finance.
If you join Barclaycard in our analytical Business Partnering team, you'll find yourself developing skills in areas such as analysis of recruitment campaigns, monthly and weekly monitoring of customer and market trends, sourcing of information and performance trend analysis.
Or you could join our Business Cost Centre Management Team where you'll take responsibility for several function areas and gain business partnering experience as well as core finance experience. You could even find yourself working abroad, as we are looking to expand our global brand.
GRB Technology (IT) and Central Support
The Finance team within Global Retail Banking (GRB) Technology and Central Support is responsible for a large and very complex business. Based across London and Cheshire, our specialists get involved in major business and commercial projects that add real value to the Group's bottom line.
As part of the team you'll gain as much exposure to the business as possible and spend time in a number of areas to develop a clear understanding of how the whole team operates. Your work could involve anything from contract negotiations with key partners such as Accenture and IBM, through to preparing budgets, annual forecasts and financial statements.
Treasury
As banker to the Barclays Group, Treasury manages the company's balance sheet. It also maintains adequate levels of capital, raises capital for the Group and manages the way we invest the proceeds. In addition, Barclays Treasury funds the Group's investments in overseas branches and direct subsidiaries and makes sure we meet the UK Financial Services Authority liquidity requirements on a daily basis.
The Finance teams in Treasury are focused around three main areas: Middle Office, Hedging and Finance & Operations Reporting. They provide a range of services including support to the Treasury liquidity team, support on hedge accounting and Treasury forecasting, and financial control.
Because Treasury works with so many business areas within the Group, this is an excellent environment for graduates who are keen to raise their profile and work with some of the most senior and successful people in our Group.
