Barclaycard Commercial
On this programme, you will experience the individual businesses that deliver our products to market, work with our customers to deliver fit for purpose solutions and lead the way in launching our innovative products. If you join the ‘Commercial’ graduate programme, you will have the opportunity to work in either Barclaycard UK or Business and International. If you join our Commercial Graduate programme, expect to be involved in several different aspects of our business.
Barclaycard UK
One in five credit cards in the UK is a Barclaycard. The people behind this multi million pound business understand the needs of our consumers and constantly work together to improve the way we service our 11.9 UK card customers as well as working with commercial organisations to develop their consumer offering. Barclaycard UK consists of a number of strategic business units, Foundation and Partnerships Business Unit, Established Business Unit, Marketing Analytics, Marketing and Customer Experience.
Foundation and Partnerships Business Unit
We successfully launch and manage credit cards for recognised and trusted brands in the UK, which are partner branded and serviced by Barclaycard. We currently have a number of partners and we will be launching new partner credit cards in the near future. Household names such as Thomas Cook; BHS; Argos and The Hilton Hotel chain all partner with Barclaycard to improve their customer offering.
Established Business Unit
The Established BU is focused on the more credit savvy customers and includes our Rewards propositions. We are continuing to develop and test new credit card offers for our customers so that we have the most appropriate products available to suit the needs of our customers. Innovation remains at the heart of our customer centric approach to product development.
Marketing
This function will specialise in the UK market by looking at our market share, customer engagement and strategy. We will also continue to leverage the skills and expertise of the CMO team, in a strong and collaborative working partnership. The creation of a Barclaycard UK Marketing Team with new and deeper capabilities will help us continue to increase the relevance and value of our brand in the eyes of consumers in the UK, and make further progress on our journey to becoming a truly customer centric business. All of this will accelerate our progress towards our vision of owning the world of simple payment.
Marketing Analytics
How do we analyse results of previous campaigns and make decisions on strategic direction? With input from our marketing analytics team. In this crucial function within our business, customer behaviour and account performance is analysed to identify patterns and behaviour which in turn helps us create a better strategy for our customers.
Business and International
Business and International has a presence in a number of countries worldwide and operates in South Africa and across Europe as well as the UK. Our business consists of three core business units: Global Payment Acceptance, Global Commercial Payments and International Consumer Lending. These business units are key sources of growth across Barclaycard and represent the core product offerings that we provide to our consumer and business customers.
Global Payment Acceptance
We are responsible for building and maintaining Barclaycard’s global acceptance network and relationships with merchant partners. Payment Acceptance is one of Europe’s largest acquirers and processors of card transactions. We are responsible for the processing and card payments of over a third of Britain's retailers. Our goal is to become the Number 1 acquirer in the UK, e-commerce and European markets by understanding our key market and exceeding our corporate clients and business users expectations every time
Global Commercial Payments
We are responsible for providing business customers with products to facilitate their global travel & entertainment and procurement-related payments. By working with businesses to understand the specific issues they face, Global Commercial Payments can help them enhance control and cost-effectiveness throughout the process.
We have developed a range of payment solutions that can help automate, simplify and monitor business expenditure. And, while each solution can be tailored to the needs of individual businesses, they all benefit from the reliability and global acceptance of Visa.
From credit cards, to embedded payment solutions capable of maximising expenditure processes, every solution we implement is designed to deliver process efficiencies.
International Consumer Lending
This division is responsible for two consumer-related products: Loans and International Card Issuing.

Working with a business area to deliver the UK cards strategy in one of our three portfolio strategic business units.
Analysing results of previous campaigns to help make decisions on strategic direction for the business. You will help us understand customer behaviour and account performance.
You will research the market to gain insights into what our corporate customers want. Or you could be designing and implementing new products that put us ahead of the competition.
Working in one of our three contact centres learning how to motivate, manage and support a team of advisors to deliver excellent customer service giving you hands-on experience of managing a large team plus a good understanding of our customers’ needs.
You will work with the team that makes sure we continue to come up with innovative ways to process card transactions, from terminals within Barclays branches through to our in-house e-commerce payment engine (ePDQ).
You will be part of a team developing our international portfolio. You could be involved in due diligence activity for potential mergers and acquisitions, researching new markets and customers, or implementing technologies and processes in new countries.
