“Hi, I’m Saurabh, I’m in the Barclays Finance Graduate Programme, and I studied finance at New York University.
I currently work in Financial Planning & Analysis at Barclays Capital, and my team is involved in some very high-level tasks, such as stress testing, business performance and performance reporting.

One of the tasks I’m involved in is called Competitor Analysis, and it’s about measuring our performance against our peers in US, Europe and Asia – this analysis feeds into senior management decisions about business strategy. Being exposed to that perspective is something I find really rewarding.

Working for some very senior executives has given me an opportunity to see the big picture in terms of the organisation. The quality of work is really high and the margin for error is really small, but it’s a challenge I very much enjoy.

We all have buddies assigned to us, who help us understand our day-to-day job and any questions about qualifications. We also have senior mentors and professional experts who help us with career decisions. I think, at Barclays, the support network is as big as you want it to be.

I like the idea of interacting with fellow graduates. Everyone comes from a different background and perspective, and it’s a learning process working with them. Also, some of the training that we get – both technical and behavioural – is something that I think is an important part of career development.

Having been given some very high level responsibilities, I’m now meeting some very senior executives who I actually thought I’d never have the opportunity to meet, I’m presenting highly useful information and having brainstorming sessions with them – they genuinely care about my opinion, which is something I really enjoy. “
